Some people grow up in the church. Others find their way to it later, slowly, through prayer and Bible study and a quiet, growing conviction that this is real and worth committing to. The second kind of faith has its own particular beauty. It is chosen deliberately, built from the ground up, and hard to take for granted.
About six months after walking through the doors of New Vision Church for the first time, one of our newest members stepped into the baptism water. They had spent those months praying, attending Bible study, and building what they described as “some sort of foundation in what Christianity is and what my faith is.” Baptism was the moment they made that foundation public.
Building Before Declaring
What stands out in this testimony is the intentionality that preceded baptism. It was the result of months of quiet, disciplined seeking: prayer, Bible study, and a genuine effort to understand the faith before publicly claiming it. That kind of patient groundwork reflects exactly what Jesus described in Luke 14 when He spoke about counting the cost.
When the day came, they woke up at four in the morning, too full of anticipation to sleep. That is someone who knows exactly what they are about to do and cannot wait to do it!
Cleaner Than Ever
Asked to describe the experience, they reached for a phrase someone else had shared with them after the moment: “cleaner than ever.” It landed as true. Romans 6 frames baptism as burial and resurrection, a dying to the old self and a rising into new life. That kind of language can feel abstract until you are standing in the water. Then it becomes exactly right.
They called it “a moment of clarity and a new beginning.” Not a finish line, but a starting point. Baptism was not the end of the journey toward faith. It was the declaration that the journey was now underway in earnest.
What Intentionality Looks Like
Since being baptized, the focus has been simple: make the right choices, live by His Word, and stay intentional about the walk with Christ. They also reflected on something that made all of it possible: this is the first time they have ever been intentional about going to church, and that shift happened because of how New Vision Church felt from day one.
