Jesus didn’t say you’re blessed if you know the gospel. He didn’t say you’re blessed if you pray the gospel. He said you’re blessed if you do the gospel and live it out.

So what is the gospel in action? It’s what Jesus demonstrated: leaving what was comfortable, living among people, serving them, loving them, and laying down His life so that others could know God.

Keep Your Eyes on Jesus

Don’t imitate anyone else. People will fail you. We will fail you. Leaders will fail you. It doesn’t matter how long someone has walked with Jesus; they’re still human. That’s why we keep our eyes on Jesus instead, the author and perfecter of our faith.

If you look to anyone else or follow any voice other than God’s Spirit, you’re going to be deceived. Jesus gave us clear instructions in John 13.

“I give you a new command: Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you are also to love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

John 13:34-35

Living the Gospel Means Loving Others

So we’re supposed to live the gospel? Okay, but what does that even look like? Living the gospel can be summed up in seven words. These 7 words will not only change your life, but, if we obey them, they will change the lives of everyone around us. Here they are:

Love God. Love others. Nothing else matters.

That’s it. If you love God and love others, you’re living the gospel. But loving others is not always easy. It takes sacrifice. It takes serving. It takes putting others before yourself, even when it’s inconvenient.

Sometimes we think we can show our love for God by giving money or by preaching and teaching. God desires more than words or money. He wants faithful living every day—putting Him at the center and saying, “Lord, my life is Yours. Use me however You want.”

Church Attendance Isn’t the Goal

Going to church doesn’t change you. A relationship with Jesus does. You can attend every Sunday, but if you don’t interact with God and obey Him, what good is it? When the gospel truly changes you, people will notice.

They’ll see the difference in your life. They’ll say, “Something’s different about you. A year ago, you wouldn’t have responded that way.” That’s what real change looks like—consistent obedience, not just a spiritual high or an emotional decision.

A New Commandment: Love Like Jesus

Jesus said, “I’m giving you a new commandment.” Not “love others as you love yourself,” but love others as I have loved you. That’s a higher standard.

Jesus’ love was sacrificial. It was undeserved. It was truth spoken in love, even when it was hard. That’s the way we’re called to love. We should be serving people in ways that might surprise them, doing things others think are unnecessary, simply because God said so.

The gospel is a love story. If you say you love God, you must also love people. That’s not easy. Loving people means being willing to serve, to give, and to forgive, even when you’re rejected, abandoned, or hated.

Real Change Brings Real Love

If we’ve been changed by God’s love, we should grow in love and show love. In a world where Christians often get misunderstood or misrepresented, we need to be the real thing—true disciples who live out the gospel daily.

That means loving God and loving people, even those who are hard to love. Because in the end, this is what matters most:

Love God. Love others. Nothing else matters.
